It's five am on a Saturday Morning. The city is quiet. The sun is yawning in approach to awakening. But has not yet. A noise is heard at 313 East 9th in Suites 311 and 313. It's the rhythm of large sheers sliding through exquisite Italian Cashmere and wool. It's the dull low frequency sound of violent and poetic strokes of tailors soap on the canvas of fabric soon to be adorned. A tailor, an artisan, is in his element and it is an old world thing of beauty in a new world of compromise.
Casual, tailored, luxury, and Made in America, are words that are not usually bedfellows. However in today's fashion climate men and women alike are seeking versatility and functional comfort with a lux flare. The fact that it’s Made in America is just a bow atop a beautiful arrangement that’s taking Kansas City by storm.
Who said gone are the times of having clothes made that are cut specifically for you? Who said that bespoke is only for the rich and famous? Who said your luxury garment has to be uncomfortable and motion restricting? You won't hear any of that from the man who is turning the tide to fuse old world tailoring and the modern wearer’s desire for ease of wear.
At The Tailor Of Kansas City, the clientel is as diverse as the Metropolitan area itself. Located in downtown Kansas City across the street from the Federal Courthouse, it's no surprise that suited men and women frequent this tailor shop, but being downtown Kansas City also brings with it the young professional progressing in life. This means wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses are being altered and tailor made. Suiting for grooms and groomsmen is being cut and tailored, and right here in Kansas City a tailoring revival is taking place. Would you know it?!
The man responsible for this is not who you might have thought of while reading the aforementioned. He’s a few months shy of 40 years old, he’s a second generation thread thrower, and has been on the cutting table, behind the sewing machine, and wielding the tailors soap and sheers for nearly half of his life. He has been the tailor for the men and women from almost every station of life and is now launching his shot at joining the ranks of tailors who have come forward in every generation to contribute to the craft and vocation of the sartorial way. He is Jay Matthew, The Tailor of Kansas City and the label inside of his clothing says something we have longed to read and hear, Made in America, Made in Kansas City! Stand by! Fashion, Fit, and finished tailoring is here and more is on the way!
That is so awesome! I'm looking forward to it! Thanks, Jay Matthew
